Royalty Reigns Supreme in Central Oregon.
Living at great heights in the altiplano of Bolivia, Chile and Peru, alpacas were first bred for Incan royalty because of their luxurious fleece. Today at Tillman Llamas and Suri Alpacas, we humbly raise their royal descendants. The suri alpaca.

King of the Andes. King of the Cascades.
Native to the high puna of the South American Andes, llamas played a pivotal role in the Incan culture for thousands of years. Admiration for this proud camelid continues today on the Tillman's ranch.

It’s early. 6am. I have just begun my “daily commute” across the ranch. The view to the west, Broken Top, Three Sisters and Mt. Bachelor is stunning in the clear June air. My mind slows as I stop to focus on a tiny miracle resting in the wet grass. It’s almost too beautiful to comprehend.

Close to our house in the birthing pasture, I spot Caroline, a young maiden, gently nuzzling her newborn. Although I have seen this sight over 1,000 times before, the image still tugs at my heart like it was the first.

I am feeling happiness, joy and even a little fear- a range of emotions. It dawns on me then that though Andy and I have devoted most of our lives to raising and caring for these animals, it is them to which we owe everything. I realize how lucky we are.
